TIPS: Hanging your Starframe Lightbox

Notes: We always recommend to use screws and molly bolts. This is the best way to secure any hanging decoration you place on your walls. However, we understand that some customers need rental friendly solutions so here are some tips! Happy hanging! :)

If you have any questions regarding your wall, you can take some pictures of your wall and go to your local hardware store with your Starframe Lightbox and they will know how to assist you best.

1. Identify Your Wall Type

Different walls need different approaches. Before hanging, check what you’re working with:

Smooth / Flat Walls (painted drywall, plaster)

  • Easiest and most common surface
  • Supports most hanging methods

Drywall and Wood

  • Lightweight frames: hooks or adhesive strips
  • Heavier frames: anchors or studs recommended

Textured Walls (popcorn, orange peel, heavily textured paint)

  • Adhesive methods may not fully bond. Temperature changes may destroy the glue.
  • Screws or anchors are safer than strips

Concrete / Brick

  • Requires masonry drill bits and wall plugs
  • Adhesives usually won’t hold long-term

2. Humidity & Temperature Tips

Environmental conditions affect both the wall and the frame:

  • Avoid high humidity areas (bathrooms, kitchens) when possible. Moisture can weaken adhesives and warp frames.
  • Stable temperature is best. Extreme heat or cold can cause expansion, adhesive failure, or LED issues.
  • Let frames acclimate. After shipping, wait a few hours before hanging so materials adjust to room temperature.

3. Choose the Right Hanging Method

Adhesive Strips or Adhesive Hangers (Command-style)

  • Adhesive command strips are the best solution over other adhesives
  • Best for: smooth, clean, dry walls
  • Frame weight: light to medium
  • Not recommended for textured or humid walls

Screws, Hooks and Nails with Plastic Anchor Or Drywall Anchor

  • Best for: drywall and plaster
  • Frame weight: light to medium-heavy
  • Good balance of strength and minimal wall damage
